The THUNDERGRID (5MWh per 6m/22ft container) achieves a storage capacity up to 10MWh per PCS. Polar‑to‑Desert certified.
The THUNDERGRID is QiOn's most powerful high‑density, long‑lasting, Battery Energy Storage System. The ideal solution for the largest energy fields.
It is composed of:
  • a 6m/20ft BESS encased in a high strength proprietary container‑type structure packed with QiOn's advanced battery technology with a power supply capacity of 5MWh, weighing less than 45t.
  • a Conversion Cabinet that contains high efficiency PCS and Transforming System.
  • a Dispatch Panel which functions as a switch for all the electrical lines and a controller for the system's communication.
It can be connected to high voltage (HV) and even extreme high voltage (EHV) power systems, allowing it to be deployed for grid‑scale applications. Multiple units can be linked together with ease.

Thermal Management

All QiOn battery modules are liquid cooled and heated. The temperature control is managed using the proprietary QiOn Thermal Management System. Q‑TMS®: an active thermoregulation system designed, developed and manufactured by QiOn. (QiOn International Patent US030692).

Smart Energy Management

Scheduling capability for BESS charge/discharge sessions.

Safety & Protection

Integrated FSS (Fire Suppression System): provides detection, extinguishing, and cool‑down capabilities (CO₂‑free for easy maintenance — no periodic replacement required). UL/CE 9540A fire test compliant. Dynamic HVB (High Voltage Box) to isolate individual racks in case of fault (one HIB per rack).

High Voltage Box (HVB) with independent controller, enabling robust HV management and enhanced system resilience. Multi‑sensor acquisition architecture supporting advanced monitoring, diagnostics, and control via the proprietary Q‑EMS.

Easy to install and maintain: all utility components are fully integrated with four‑side access doors for easy inspection of battery racks. Battery packs and power electronics are delivered pre‑installed and wired — ready to use.
